We meet Queequeg, Tashtego and Daggoo, the three harpooners, and the mates and crew of Pequod serving under Captain Ahab who is determined on revenge on the great white whale, Moby Dick. The whaling life is hard and dangerous for death is always present as we follow the men of the Pequod on their hunting. But Captain Ahab seeks only Moby Dick, the whale who seems to know and understand those who hunt him.
Oliver Twist
After a wretched childhood spent in the care of parish workhouses, the poor starving orphan boy, Oliver Twist, runs away to London when he is barely twelve years old. There, he falls into the hands of Fagin, the leader of a gang of thieves and housebreakers. Eventually befriended by Mr Brownlow, a victim of the gang, Oliver discovers his true identity and gains a loving family and his rightful inheritance.
Black Beauty
Grazing peacefully at his mother's side in the cool, green meadow, the handsome, young colt, Black Beauty, could never have imagined the events that were to take place as he grew older. Black Beauty tells his own story...a story of kind and gentle masters who loved him well and others who were cruel and uncaring. We learn about life in the country and in the city and of things that happened to Black Beauty and his friends. His story shows that horses have feelings too, sometimes knowing more than we realise and that, well-treated, they will remain our true and loyal friends.
(all summary taken from back cover of book)
